She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Connecticut. Her research examines social inequalities in the health among persons in the United States and Caribbean. Her work centers on the mental and physical health experiences of women, Afro-Caribbean immigrants, African Americans, and sexual minorities. In her most recent work, she employs comparative health analyses of abused Black women in the US and Caribbean.
